There's nothing to disagree with. I didn't make a statment, I asked a question: "Essential for what?" Again, I'm not sure I understand the question of the Essentials as you state them.

And to further the problem, simply accepting a set of core doctrines as true doesn't make you a Christian---if so we have promoted some new kind of gnosticism, yes? I can know about you, but that doesn't mean I know you. Knowing about Jesus, and having correct knowledge about Jesus, doesn't save you, or does it?

Matt, the more I consider your thoughts on the essentials the more I disagree. Yes we must accept that God is Creator, Jesus as the Word who became flesh, and the Scripture as inspired and without error in the original documents as essential. Yet, His atoning sacrifice and having His work credited to our accounts is essential too. Without the application of Christ's righteousness the plan of God is not fulfilled for the faithful seeker. The plan (see above: "Salvation is received") is a must and those teaching otherwise are not leading people to Christ as Christ commands. And, no one is assured of the application if they don't faithfully apply the gospel commands.

Essential for what? Essential for daily living for Chirst? So, if we don't fully understand these things can we live for Chirst? Or essential for being saved? So, if we don't fully understand these things we can't be saved? Or essential for leadership? So, if we don't fully understand these things we can't be in Church leadership? See, i'm not sure I understand the whole "essentials" argument. Dogma vs. Doctrine? Yes, but essentials, i'm not sure I understand. Please explain further. Thanks. www.matt-summers.com
